Dr. Barbara van der Meij is a post doc investigator in the Center for Translational Research in Aging & Longevity in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, Texas A&M University. Her research interests are in the field of nutrition, body composition and food preferences in patients with cancer and older adults. After earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and Nutrition and Health, she completed her PhD at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, Netherlands, investigating effects of fish oil on clinical parameters and quality of life in patients with cancer.

She worked for 12 years as an RD at the departments of pulmonary diseases, medical oncology and head and neck surgery. After her PhD, she worked as a post doc at the VU University Amsterdam. Her focus of research was on the food preferences of elderly with a poor appetite.
